I got nothin’ lately. Been doing a lot of office work recently – most of my projects are “upcoming” and still “in the planning stages”. Booooooring.
I did get to go out and enjoy a morning out on the kayak with some friends on Eklutna Lake. Beautiful weather, partly cloudy skies and great views of the surrounding mountains. The wind kicked up pretty strong and we spent less time on the water than I would have liked. But it was still great to get out and get a little upper body workout with the paddle. I got to experiment with my camera and underwater housing – I need a lot more practice. Here is a quick shot from the kayak today, with a selective high pass contrast run. I like the processing, it’s not my normal fare by any means. It was purely accidental too, I was running my standard high pass sharpening action that I made (High Pass Sharpening Action – click to download, Adobe Photoshop needed. Enjoy!) and I just skipped the last step and turned the preview off. The action didn’t run completely, as I aborted it because I liked the effect. So much in photography and Photoshop is experimentation.
Anyways… I wanted to direct you to some fellow Alaskan photogs websites because of their recent pics. They’ve both been having a “whale” of a good time lately. Hopefully, I’ll have some luck with the whales when I head out on the waters of Kenai Fjords National Park in a few weeks. For now, please check out my friends, Ron Niebrugge of Seward and T Kent Mearig of Juneau. Cheers mates.
Thanks for the publicity Dave. I’ll be looking forward to seeing you come back from your trip with some great photos whether the whales cooperate or not. Best of luck with them though.
Hey Dave,
Thanks a lot for the mention – I really appreciate it!
I love the graphic nature of this photo. The bright orange kayak makes for a great contrast with the rich greens.
I have always like the Eklutna Lake area. There is a great trail for mountain biking around the lake and up the far valley.
Thanks again,
Ron
My pleasure gents. Eklutna really is a great lake with beautiful surroundings. I haven’t biked there yet, need to buy a new mountain bike. Need to win the lottery too:)
Thanks for the comments guys. Take care, be safe & keep shooting!
Great color Dave. The orange really knocks me out (in a good way)
Hey Kelli! Thanks. I really liked the contrast between the vibrant colors. Floating through the reeds was like hearing a cool breeze, they just whispered as they parted around the kayak. Very cool.
