2011 Adventours
This isn’t a “photo safari”. It’s an Adventour!
2011 is going to be an extraordinary year for photography in Alaska. You have 2 basic options when choosing a photo tour to Alaska. 1 – Go with a tour leader who doesn’t live in Alaska. 2 – Go with a local who is a passionate photographer, guide, and instructor. Sure, with option 1, you will probably have a good time. You’ll also pay more because you have to cover the guides travel to and from Alaska. They may know some locations, but do they know hundreds? Intimately? So why not choose a local guide? With option 2, you can skip the “good time” and move straight to “Adventour of a lifetime”!
I will be offering 3 incredible “adventours”. Each will be custom made for a small group of passionate photographers. Each will be to locations that will put you smack dab, square in the heart of, in the depths of, knock your socks off – wilderness Alaska. The tour prices and dates are still being finalized, but a little birdie told me that I should get the word out now. I always do what I’m told. See a tour you like? Contact me now to be put on the mailing list.
Wilderness Aurora & Winter Landscapes – March/April 2011. Imagine yourself at a wilderness lodge near the Alaska Range, the aurora borealis swirling and arcing overhead. Perhaps you’ll hear the howl of wolves in the distance. In the daylight hours, we’ll spend our time photographing winter mountain-scapes and snow covered tundra, and the hearty wildlife in the area. I will also cover digital darkroom techniques during the daytime and we’ll get some sleep too. This will be a 7 night trip to a remote lodge, with access only by tracked snow vehicle. Since the aurora can never be guaranteed (nor can clear skies to witness it), we will maximize the diversity of the subjects in this area. This is an “exploratory” tour. I have extensive experience in this region in the summer and fall, but this will be my first trip in the winter. Because of this, I will be offering a trip discount for this first trip. We will have excellent and knowledgeable hosts, good food, and warm accommodations. Minimum of 3 clients, max of 5. Sign up now.
Spring in Cordova & the Copper River Delta – June 2011. One word. Lush. The region around Cordova is one of my favorite places in Alaska. Scratch that… the world. I keep going back, and keep finding more. Rugged coastline, sparkling and calm inlets, moss-draped rainforest, pale blue glacial streams, the Copper River Delta (the largest contiguous wetland along the Pacific Coast in North America), beautiful multi-colored wildflowers, and thundering glaciers. Oh… and there is ample wildlife too. Bear, moose, sea otters, eagles and seals. What more could you ask for? How about 3 great meals a day (all included) at a rugged coastal lodge? How about one of the least visited areas in all of Alaska – I’m still trying to figure that riddle out. This is pristine wilderness. The photographic opportunities are endless. But only for 2 – 5 clients. Sign up now.
The Alaskan Fall Color Grand Tour – September 1-9, 2011. You’ve never seen anything like this before. Many people say that Vermont is the fall color capital of the world. Those people have never been to Alaska. This is an epic road based journey, staying at hand-picked lodges owned and operated by friends. We will cover an amazing variety of terrain. Tundra, alpine, glaciers, rainforest, and coastal. Brilliant reds and golds are around every corner. Whole valleys covered in tundra transitioning in a rainbow of hues. Pristine groves of aspen. And a glacial blue that has to be seen to be believed. I’ve been scouting this trip for 4 straight years, and I’ll be adding a 5th and final scouting trip this fall. I can’t wait to show this amazing landscape with you, and you won’t want your adventour to end. I guarantee it. Sign up now.

“A Day in the Field” Photographic Instruction
Are you a photographer? Here’s a little hint about being “a photographer”. It’s not a job title. It’s a passion. You don’t need to have your own studio, work for National Geographic, or for the local paper. You don’t have to own an $8,000 camera and $11,000 lenses. You don’t need a masters in communications.
You just have to love photography.
So, are you a photographer?
Based on the success of last year, I’m offering more 1-on-1 instructional sessions for photographers of all skill levels. Since I specialize in wild life and landscapes, that is what I will be focusing on – but every facet of what I teach is easily applied to all forms of photography. From photos of your son’s soccer game to family portrait sessions.
What do you want to learn? Composition or exposure fundamentals? Action photography or advanced techniques for capturing beautiful landscape images (it is Alaska, after all)? Photoshop, Lightroom, or Apple Aperture? How much time do you have? These sessions are 1 day long and can be scheduled to suit your needs. Want to learn more? They are easily expandable to weekend workshops or even longer. Have a friend (or 3) that loves photography too? Enroll a friend and you both get $25 off the daily rate for each day of that session!
This is your photographic foundation. Let me help you solidify it.
Rates
$250/day per client
*Fees do not include logistics costs (where applicable). These can include, but are not limited to: lodging, transportation, vehicle rentals, logistic partner fees, permits, meals @ $50/day (for workshops ≥ 2 days “on location”), or rented photographic equipment.
Have questions or want a quote for your “Day in the Field” instructional session? Please email or call. I’ll be glad to help.

Custom Adventours – 1, 2, or Multi-Day Tours
Do you want to really experience an Alaskan adventure? Are you looking for a one-of-a-kind customized tour catered to your exact needs? Not interested in traveling with a group, or do you want an incredible family journey – one they will never forget? Do you have a small group of friends wanting to photographically explore Alaska and be led by a highly knowledgeable local as your guide? Want to learn new photographic tricks (or fundamentals) along the way? All while avoiding the tourist crowds, the packed buses and vans, and a fixed itinerary put in place by someone who doesn’t have a clue about a photographer’s schedule.
Then this is your Adventour.
From 1 day excursions to week long (or longer) treks, these are intense, fully customized and highly researched tours. If you can dream it, I’ll do my very best to fulfill it. When needed, I’ll take care of all lodging, transportation, and activities so you can sit back and enjoy the moments that you’ll be talking about the rest of your life. Well, “sit back” may be a misnomer. You’ve heard friends talk about taking a pill to help them sleep on the plane ride home? Trust me, you won’t need that prescription after this tour.
Rates
$250/day per client
Non-photographer “tag along” rate = $150/day per “tag along”
*Fees do not include logistics costs (where applicable). These can include, but are not limited to: lodging, transportation, vehicle rentals, logistic partner fees, permits, meals @ $50/day (for tours ≥ 2 days “on location”), or rented photographic equipment.
* Tours > 3 days in length incur a one-time “Logistics Fee” of $200 (This covers the incredible amount of time it takes to plan the ultimate trip).
