Well, here it is… the project I (not so?) subtly hinted at last night on this blog. This summer, Scott Slone (of Alaska HDTV) and I spent a few days hiking the Reed Lakes Trail (and beyond) in Hatcher Pass. I shot several photos that I am very happy with, and Scott worked tirelessly on getting clips for this video. We have several ongoing projects that will carry on this tradition, if the response is positive. So, if you like it, sound off in the comments below – we’d love to hear from you. Also, be sure to stop by Scott Slone’s awesome website featuring adventure travel in Alaska – Alaska HDTV. Without further ado, here is… “Hiking Reed Lakes, Alaska”! Want to be kept up to date about all of my Photo Workshops &...

Something Wicked, This Way Comes…

Just a quick teaser here… be sure to check back tomorrow for new content. Should be very fun, I’ve been waiting (rather impatiently, I might add) to see this little project take another step forward. That’s all I’m gonna say for now… deal with it. And be sure to check back tomorrow (evening, perhaps… perhaps sooner… I have no control on this one). Hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I did experiencing it. Want to be kept up to date about all of my Photo Workshops & AdvenTours, tips & tricks, and news? Here’s another recent video produced by good friend and very talented producer/cameraman Scott Slone of Alaska HDTV. I honestly don’t have a clue as to how Scott does his magic with the video stuff – it is sooo beyond my comprehension. I’m just thankful he knows how. We are working on more of these photo tip videos, set in amazing wilderness locations all over Alaska. I hope you enjoy it! Hello everyone. I’m in the midst of packing up my backpack for an early morning start… in roughly 7 hours. Scott Slone and I are heading back to the Talkeetna Mountains and Hatcher Pass. Got the tent and a few wraps & snacks. Sleeping bag, bed roll… Oh… what else? Oh! Yeah! Camera gear! I wanted to share this video with you before I left. Please feel free to comment (as always!) while I’m gone. I hope you like it. I have been having a lot of fun with shooting more video. I have a long ways to go before I learn perhaps what 1/10th of Scott’s left pinky knows about video – but I’m enjoying the learning process and entirely different workflow. So, go easy on me:D I’ll be formally unveiling all the details...

What Dreams May Come

I have had many dreams over the past several years, since moving to Alaska. And, since moving to Alaska, many of those have come true. I have seen more amazing scenery and wildlife in the past 4 years, than most will see in a lifetime. For those of you who have been following along, I have photographed brown bear from not yards – but feet & inches. Dall sheep ram, ewes & lamb from only a few yards. Moose just beyond my car window. Bald eagles so close that their wings grazed my shoulders as they came in for a landing or to leave again. Humpback whales splashing down after an amazing series of breaches. Orca circling our boat in growing numbers. Glaciers actively calving into milky blue waters, surrounded by snow capped mountains. But one thing...

Video: Bald Eagles of Homer, Winter 2007

As a preface, most people can’t believe how many eagles are in one location… this is untouched footage, no video trickery:) This video was made on a typical morning shoot in Jean Keene’s yard, back in 2007, shot from a point and shoot camera in movie mode. The person with their back to Tim in the opening clip is Jean, as she preps and tosses fish over the wall. I have been in her yard when there have been easily twice this number of Bald Eagles at one time… and yes, they do get that close. Closer at times, I’ve seen them land on abandoned tripods, cameras, and even the occasional human head! This is usually accompanied by a muffled, “Hoooooly, sh!t” It’s a quick clip, but fun. Favorite part? When Tim says, “Too...
