Digital Panning Blurs – A Photoshop Tutorial
It is not like me to go back, years later, and ‘revisit’ an image. ‘Re-work’ it. I can probably count the times I’ve done this on both of my hands. I don’t know why this is… Perhaps I became so busy shooting new material that I just never had the time to go back. Nonsense… you can always make the time to go back. Or maybe I was just satisfied with the work I had done – I had completely fulfilled my vision the first go ’round. Nooooot likely, I’m my own worst critic. I don’t know if I’ve ever been truly happy with any of my photographs. Oh sure, I’ve been proud of work – but I can still find at least one two faults in every image. I honestly don’t know. Maybe I just...
New Look to the Website!
It’s 2:16 AM. I’ve been working on this update for the whole day. But honestly, that’s pretty quick… not like the old days of coding html and building a site from scratch on Dreamweaver. Luckily, today we have tools that make this ‘work’ so much easier. Tools like WordPress and the very skilled coders behind specialty ‘templates’ like those made by Elegant Themes. I was first introduced to Elegant Themes by my good friend, Scott Slone, of Alaska HDTV and Perfect Blend Media. Scott is far more advanced than I am when it comes to developing a web presence and designing websites. I’ve been meaning to change up my own site for some time – there were a few things that I just didn’t like. It was...
What’s In the Bag? – Aurora Photo Tour
Several people have asked me what I take on my photography trips. As I was organizing my gear for final packing this morning, I figured that my 2nd “Aurora Borealis, Winter Landscapes & Wildlife” Photo Tour of 2011 would offer a good opportunity. And broken down from top to bottom: 1) Hand and foot warmers. Last trip involved temps down to -35 (without factoring windchill) and these little buggers were invaluable. On display are hand and toe warmers, but I’ve got several boxes for my clients to use. The temps for this tour are looking much more manageable, highs in the 40′s and lows in single digits – “It’s a heat wave!” 2) Singh-Ray Graduated ND Filters. 2 & 3 stop grad nds, both hard and soft...
10 Winter Photography Tips
Wow, it has been a while since I’ve made a post not related to my Alaska Photo Tours. But, in my defense, I been berry berry busy. Somewhere, my high school english teacher just gagged. Jena and I have been getting out in the field as much as possible, taking advantage of the beautiful winter wonderland that surrounds us and the gorgeous light we’ve been blessed with on occasion. It may still be considered “Fall” in the Lower 48, but we are full into winter here in Alaska. I remember when I first decided to move to Alaska, my friends in Wisconsin all made the same comment. “Are you sure you are ready for those winters?” I knew it would be an adjustment, but I was not ready for how busy I would be in the winter time with my...
iPhone Apps for Photographers
Greetings everyone. Hope everyone is staying warm and healthy. Up here in Alaska it’s been very windy lately, especially in the Valley (Wasilla). Winds gusting up to 60 mph & higher! And it has been doing this for several days in a row now. This usually happens 2-3 times a year, usually in early/mid/late winter. I headed up north yesterday (Saturday), to photography some southern views of the Alaska Range and Denali again. This time I had company – again, it’s always about the people we meet along the way. I was joined by Scott Slone from Alaska HDTV. Here are some links to his work. Alaska HDTV Perfect Blend Media Scott Slone.com Great guy, passionate about his art & very tech savvy. It was fascinating watching a professional...
