I am happy to announce a new tour offering for this coming winter. It is part of the Wild Lands & Wild Life Series, and is called “Aurora Borealis & Winter Landscapes”. Join me at a remote lodge for 8 days and 7 nights where we will focus on the beautiful light and landscapes that make up an Alaskan winter season. And that’s not all! This tour is timed to coincide with the seasonal peak of late winter aurora borealis (northern lights) activity as well as the traditionally clearest skies of the year! Since the aurora borealis are naturally occurring phenomenon, there can be no guarantee that they will make an appearance, but we are entering a period known as Solar Maximum, which typically brings a strong boost to aurora activity. The lodge is situated in an area that can take advantage of even solar storms of even lower intensity, so we will have that advantage as well.
The Travel Channel lists the Aurora Borealis as one of the top things to see before you die. Besides the northern lights to look forward to at night, this time of year offers beautiful golden hours. With mountains in all directions, we will take advantage of the scenery during the day time as well. If weather does not cooperate, then we will focus on digital darkroom techniques. This is going to be an epic tour. Perhaps it’s time to buy that winter parka! Camera gear rentals available at special discount. Now what is your excuse? “It’s gonna be cold!” Perhaps, but seeing the northern lights dance overhead will light an eternal fire within you. Where will you be March 31st – April 7th, 2011?
